== History ==

When [[Patty]] and Selma had a major argument, Selma started dating Merle because she knew Patty wouldn't like her dating him. When Patty woke up on the couch one morning, she was shocked to find that Merle had stayed the night, because one of their house rules was "no unvetted Merles without the approval of both twins." Merle then offered to cook eggs for both of them.

[[Homer]] and [[Marge]] went on a double date with Selma and Merle to [[Luigi's]]. During the date, Merle decided to try Homer's tiramisu, using Homer's spoon to eat it. Disgusted by this, Homer demanded the check from [[Luigi]]. As Homer and Merle put their credit cards on the check, Merle pointed out that Homer's [[Costington's]] reward points card was a joke. He then told Homer he could get him into a premium platinum card, then asked him how much he was spending on flights, hotels, and a month.

When [[Bart]] and [[Lisa]] came up with a plan to get Patty and Selma to make up their differences, they wanted to get them both to the [[Subaru Dr. Martens LPGA Tournament]]. However, all the tickets to the tournament were sold out, except for the Amex VIP lounge. Homer got in touch with Merle, who came up with a plan to get them tickets using reward points. The plan involved flying from [[Shelbyville International Airport]] to [[Sioux Falls]], moving those reward points to [[Comfort Lodge Motel]], staying the night there, and finally booking a hot air balloon prime rib adventure for twenty people, then immediately cancelling it. This got the 1 million points needed for the tickets.

Merle went with the [[Simpson family|Simpsons]] to the tournament. When Homer was denied entry because he was marked as legally deceased, Merle told Homer that he'd have to be declared alive again to follow through with the plan. Homer reluctantly agreed to do so to make Marge happy. When Marge asked Selma if she really wanted to be with Merle, Selma responded saying she was miserable because the sex was fine, but the endless cuddling after was killing her. Merle told Homer that to him, sex was foreplay, cuddling was the main event.

After Selma broke up with Merle, Patty pushed him down the stairs of the [[Spinster City Apartments]].
