== History ==
When [[Marge]] was younger, Mary Tyler Maul was her favorite roller derby skater. However, she got banned for life from the league for cheating, something that she had regretted ever since.

When Marge tried out for the Springfield Spitfires, [[Lisa]] bought her the book ''[[Legends of Roller Derby: The Top 50 Skaters of All-Time!]]''. Mary Tyler Maul was listed in the book at number fourteen. Lisa realized this when she went to return the book after Marge decided to quit roller derby following the first tryout, and Mary Tyler Maul had a table at [[Punkberry and Springfield Roller Derby Museum]]. Lisa asked Mary to help teach Marge to become a skater. Marge was happy to meet her idol, but was also hesitant about continuing roller derby. However, Mary talked her into it.

Mary and Lisa took Marge out onto the highway, where Mary pushed Marge out of her truck so she could skate through traffic. A while later, Mary took Marge to [[Ticketmaestro]], where [[Lurleen Lumpkin]] was selling concert tickets, and [[Homer]] was at the front of the line to get them. Marge pushed through the crowd but found that it was not actually Homer at the front of the line. Mary told Marge that it was a simple mistake, but that she needed motivation to use brute force. The night of the first bout, Mary went with Marge to the [[Duff Arena]], but wasn't allowed in because of the restraining order against her.

After Marge's first bout was successful, she was given the name "Mary Tyler Maul", which Lisa was against, as it might upset Mary. However, Marge decided to keep the name anyway, which annoyed Mary. On the day of the bout against the [[She-Devils]], Mary brought Marge her old skates and let her use them. She told Marge that if she was going to play the role, she had to go all the way, but warned Marge that she could lose a lot along the way. She said that she hoped that Marge would figure out that her success at roller derby would cost her everything so she could salvage the relationship with her biggest fan, Lisa.

During the bout against the She-Devils, the wheels on one of Mary's skates fell off. It was unclear whether they were sabotaged by Mary or whether it was an accident.
