Lisa then explains that the people of Springfield light the candles in remembrance of the great blackout that almost destroyed the town. She then tells the story.

When Homer is made to take out the trash at the party, he almost throws it into the reactor core chute but stops at the last second and throws it into the trash chute. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns asks [[Smithers]] to plug his phone into an overloaded plug socket, which starts a fire. Everyone evacuates the power plant as it melts down and Springfield loses its power. The employees then all blame Homer for the fire, thinking he started it.
