== History ==
At Amalgamated Components, Homer was giving a presentation to the board about why making the ashtrays bigger would increase productivity and efficiency and cost the company less. This was received well by the company's owner, [[Clancy Wiggum]], although Wiggum sent him back to his normal desk job after the presentation. After work finished for the day, Homer got into an elevator with [[Barney Gumble]]. Barney told Homer that there was an opening for an executive position in optimization and that if he played his cards right, he could get the position and a key to the executive washroom. Barney then told Homer that he could seal the deal with their boss at his country club party the following day.

On the train home, [[Kirk Van Houten]] sat next to Homer and struck up a conversation with him. When they arrived at [[Cheeverton Station]], Kirk removed his clothes, revealing his muscular body, then started swimming from pool to pool in the back yards of houses. Homer got into his wife's car, where [[Helen Lovejoy|Helen]] and his kids, [[Dirk Simpson|Dirk]] and [[Birk Simpson|Birk]], who resembled Kirk, were waiting. That evening, while eating dinner, Helen told Homer that they were going to the party because she wanted Homer to get the promotion, even if it meant Homer would have to work late every night and never spend a night in their bed again.

At the party, Homer got cold feet about talking to the boss and went to get a drink at the bar. {{ap|Marge|The Company Man}}, the bartender, asked him what was wrong. After Homer explained that he was looking for a promotion, Marge told him that being a soulless cog in the capitalist machine didn't seem like his kind of thing. After showing Homer a picture of him that she drew on a napkin, Homer admitted that he didn't want that life. Marge and Homer decided to run off and spend time together.

After spending the day together, Homer and Marge agreed to run away to [[California]] together. They promised to meet at the Cheeverton Station in two hours to get a bus to California, with the two of them telling each other that they loved each other. When Homer got home and started to pack, Helen told him that she managed to get the promotion for Homer, including a key to the executive washroom. At the Cheeverton Station, Marge was waiting by the bus for Homer. However, when Homer arrived at the station, he instead got on the train to work, leaving a dejected Marge to get on the bus alone. In the executive washroom, Homer was on the toilet while crying as the [[Squeaky-Voiced Teen]] shined his shoes.

Homer is married to Helen who, unbeknownst to Homer, had been cheating on him with Kirk Van Houten. Homer's sons, Dirk and Birk, are likely biologically Kirk's due to their similar appearances and even names.
