*The episode title is a reference to the 1962 nonfiction book ''{{w|Black Like Me}}'', written by {{w|John Howard Griffin}}.
*Lego [[Homer]] says of [[Maggie]], "They're so cute when they're Duplo", a reference to {{w|Lego Duplo}}, a line of Lego bricks designed for very young children.
*Homer looks at a [[Perky Patty's Princess Shop]] playset and [[Comic Book Guy]] asks if he is an AMFOP, short for "Adult Male Fan of Princesses". This is a reference to adult male fans of ''{{w|My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic}}'',  who are collectively referred to as {{w|My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fandom|Bronies}}.
